Malaysia’s women’s doubles duo, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, have been handed what many see as a favourable draw for the 2025 Badminton World Championships in Paris. However, head coach Rosman Razak remains cautious, choosing not to read too much into the advantage as the tournament approaches. He emphasised that his priority is to keep the players fully prepared to take on any opponent throughout the prestigious tournament.
“My position remains the same — we don’t want to look too far ahead or dwell on who our opponents might be. Our priority is to prepare the players for the tournament, ensuring they are fully ready and focused when match day arrives,” he told reporters after the national team’s training session today.

At Wednesday’s draw ceremony, Pearly-Thinaah were handed a favourable path, with little standing in their way to reach the semi-finals. As the second seeds, they received a first-round bye and are expected to meet the world’s 14th-ranked duo, Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti of Indonesia, in the quarter-finals — a match-up in which the Malaysian pair hold the advantage based on past encounters.
When asked about the women’s doubles preparations for the World Championships, Rosman said that everything he and the coaching team had planned was progressing smoothly. He also confirmed that none of the national women’s doubles players competing in the tournament are carrying any injuries.
In addition to Pearly-Thinaah, Malaysia will be represented in the women’s doubles by Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing, with both pairs receiving first-round byes. Notably, Malaysia has yet to secure a medal in the women’s doubles event at the World Championships.
With a favourable draw, solid preparations, and a clean bill of health, Malaysia’s women’s doubles contingent heads into the 2025 Badminton World Championships with optimism. While history has yet to yield a medal in this event for the nation, the combination of experience, form, and focus could make this year’s campaign a turning point.
