Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Fresh Take with a Superstar Flair

Lokesh Kanagaraj is one of the most acclaimed directors in the Kollywood industry, best known for his unique Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), where his films are interlinked through characters and storylines. However, Coolie was announced as a standalone film, with no connections to his previous works.

In this film, Lokesh experiments with a different style of storytelling, crafting a narrative that perfectly complements Thalaivar’s larger-than-life screen presence. While this fresh approach may not entirely reflect Lokesh’s signature touch and filmmaking style, his trademark brilliance in camera work and visual composition shines through. Overall, with Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj delivers a full-fledged Superstar action-packed entertainer that balances his technical finesse with Rajinikanth’s undeniable charisma.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Screen Presence Steals the Show

This year marks a historic milestone for Superstar Rajinikanth as he completes 50 glorious years in cinema. His journey began with Apoorva Raagangal in 1975, and five decades later, his 171st film, Coolie, released on August 14, 2025. Over the years, Rajinikanth has portrayed countless versatile characters, delivered industry-defining hits, and established himself as the ultimate mass icon.

To celebrate this golden jubilee, Coolie opens with a special touch that makes the occasion even more memorable for fans. From the very beginning, Rajinikanth’s unmatched style, charisma, and larger-than-life presence carry the film effortlessly. Theatres erupt with excitement at every moment — whether it’s his trademark swag, his iconic laugh, or even the subtle emotions he conveys through his eyes and expressions.

The action sequences, in particular, reach their peak thanks to Thalaivar’s magnetic screen presence, making Coolie a true spectacle. For fans, the film is nothing short of a grand celebration — a perfect tribute to Rajinikanth’s legacy and a treat that reaffirms why he remains the undisputed Superstar of Indian cinema.

An Ensemble Cast That Elevates the Narrative

Coolie boasts a massive star cast, adding to the film’s grandeur. Alongside Rajinikanth, the ensemble includes Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Shoubin, Uppendra, Shruti Haasan, and many more, with a special guest appearance by Pooja Hegde. Each star is introduced with a fiery entry scene, and every character gets their moment to shine.

While the sequence between Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth could have been explored in greater depth, the rest of the cast leaves a strong impact. Shoubin, in particular, delivers a standout performance — his dance and acting elevate him as one of the film’s most memorable and powerful characters.

The presence of such a stellar lineup adds an extra layer of energy and depth to the narrative. Balancing so many big names is always a challenge, but Lokesh Kanagaraj manages to give justice to each role. Every actor contributes effectively, making Coolie not just a Superstar-driven film, but also a true ensemble entertainer.

Chartbusters and Electrifying Background Score

Anirudh Ravichander, the sensational music director of the season, delivers yet another chartbuster album with Coolie. His music and powerful background score complement the film perfectly, amplifying its energy and mass appeal. Every song from the soundtrack is dominating playlists, with Chikitu and Powerhouse emerging as fiery anthems that are sure to be favorites among Rajinikanth fans.

Meanwhile, the Monica track has sparked a social media frenzy, with its catchy beats and signature dance steps going viral through reels and fan recreations. Beyond the songs, Anirudh’s background score is a true highlight — his thumping themes elevate every key moment of the film. The mansion fight sequence, in particular, stands out thanks to his electrifying score, adding intensity and adrenaline to the visuals.

Overall, Anirudh’s music and background score are nothing short of outstanding, making Coolie not just a visual spectacle but also a musical feast for the fans.

Twists, Turns, and a Gripping Narrative

The storyline of Coolie is engaging, filled with unexpected twists, turns, and surprise elements that keep the audience hooked. Lokesh Kanagaraj has crafted the flashback portions especially well, allowing viewers to connect emotionally and travel along with the narrative.

While a few scenes could have benefited from sharper writing, the film as a whole delivers a gripping cinematic experience. With its mix of mass moments, strong performances, and high-octane sequences, Coolie ensures a thoroughly enjoyable theatrical ride for the audience.

Coolie is more than just another Rajinikanth film — it is a celebration of his legacy, his unmatched charisma, and his 50 years in cinema. Lokesh Kanagaraj steps out of his usual filmmaking zone to deliver a fresh, mass-packed entertainer that showcases Thalaivar in all his glory, supported by a stellar cast, Anirudh’s pulsating music, and a gripping storyline. For fans, it’s an unforgettable tribute to the Superstar’s journey, and for general audiences, it’s a power-packed theatrical experience worth every bit of the hype.
