Former national women’s doubles badminton player Woon Khe Wei has expressed strong confidence in Malaysia’s Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah pair, believing they have what it takes to clinch a medal at the 2025 World Badminton Championships in Paris, France, scheduled from 25th August to 31st August.
Khe Wei highlighted the duo’s consistent performances throughout the year as a key reason for her optimism. Currently ranked second in the world, Pearly and Thinaah have expressed fans and critics alike with their dynamic style of play and strong tournament results.

“This year their performance is really good and quite consistent. Their style of playing is impressive and convincing. So hopefully they can get Malaysia’s first medal in the women’s doubles event,” Khe Wei said during the opening of her badminton academy.
While acknowledging the pair’s favorable draw at the championships, Khe Wei also advised them to stay grounded and not underestimate their opponents. Despite the relatively smooth path ahead, she emphasized that mental and physical preparation remains crucial for achieving success.

During the draw ceremony on Wednesday, Pearly-Thinaah received a bye in the first round, setting up a quarter final clash with the world’s 14th ranked Indonesian pair, Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti. Historical match records are in favor of the Malaysian duo, further bolstering their chances of reaching the semi-finals and potentially securing a historic medal.
With Paris on the horizon, all eyes will be on Pearly and Thinaah as they aim to make history for Malaysia in women’s doubles badminton.
