For G.Kishendran, the convocation of Merlimau Polytechnic, Melaka (PMM) was more than just a celebration of academic achievement, it marked the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, to stand on stage with his parents after earning top honours.
The 23-year-old Diploma in Accountancy graduate achieved a perfect 4.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) across six consecutive semesters, earning him both the Directors Award and the Academic and Co-Curricular Excellence Award at today’s ceremony. His dedication and discipline over three years at PMM have made him a standout student.
Despite obtaining eight A’s in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, Kishendran’s dream of celebrating this success with his parents was delayed for five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The setback, however, became a source of motivation for the son of a lorry driver and food caterer.
“I’m really happy and thankful. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without my parents’ prayers and sacrifices. They worked hard to support the family and give us a proper education. I used to feel down and nearly gave up, but the support of my parents, lecturers and friends gave me the strength to keep going, and I dedicate this success to all of them,” Kishendran told the reporters.

Earlier, Kishendran received the awards from Polytechnic and Community College Education Department director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail at the 23rd PMM Convocation Ceremony.
Hailing from Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur and the third of six siblings, Kishedran developed an interest in accounting as early as Form Four. His rigorous routine-waking up at 4am daily to work on assignments-allowed him to excel academically while actively participating in various polytechnic programmes.
Kishendran also achieved an impressive overall Merit KITA score of 88.75 per cent, a comprehensive evaluation system in Malaysian polytechnics that assesses academics, leadership, co-curricular involvement, and student character.
Currently employed as an administrative and accounts executive at a private company Kishendran is awaiting the results of his application to pursue a Bachelor of Accounting at either Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) or Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), aiming to continue his journey of academic excellence.
