Olympian Jiwa Mohan’s children are making their mark across different sporting arenas. His 13-year-old daughter, Yashica, stepped into the spotlight on Sunday when she clinched the Division Two title at the National Squash Championships in Penang — a remarkable victory in her very first appearance.
Meanwhile, Jiwa Mohan’s 14-year-old twin sons, Kryshant and Kriish, are set to make their mark in Europe as they prepare to compete in the German Junior Hockey League later this month. Both boys picked up the sport at just six years old and have been steadily developing their skills ever since. Following in the footsteps of their Olympian father, they are now poised to gain invaluable international exposure and experience against some of the best young talents in the game.

The twins, who both play in midfield, were instrumental in guiding Victoria to victory at the Australian Under-16 Championships in Adelaide this past April. Victoria secured the national title with a 3-1 win over New South Wales in the final, with Kryshant contributing an impressive five goals throughout the tournament. Their strong performances caught the attention of selectors, earning both Kryshant and Kriish a place among the 22 players invited to join the training squad for Australia’s Under-16 team.
Adding to their growing list of achievements, both boys have been handpicked by Oliver Kurtz, the 1992 Barcelona Olympic gold medalist, to represent Hanauer Tennis and Hockey Club in Germany. They will feature in the Under-16 and Under-18 leagues, gaining invaluable international experience. The twins are scheduled to depart for Germany on August 26 and will return to Australia on October 30.
Kryshant described their call-up to the Australian Under-16 camp last October as a dream come true for both him and his brother. “It was a huge breakthrough for us, and we’re also very thankful for the chance to compete in the German League. Playing there will allow us to sharpen our skills, gain valuable experience, and understand the European style of hockey,” he said.
Looking ahead, Kryshant shared their ambitions: “Our ultimate goal is to represent Australia at every level, from juniors all the way to the senior team. We hope to play in the Junior World Cup and, one day, the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.” Notably, Kryshant had already showcased his scoring ability last year when he finished as Victoria’s top scorer with 14 goals at the 2023 Under-13 Australian Championships.

Kryshant, who has represented Victoria since 2022, said his aim is to excel in both attack and defence. “To do that, I need to remain composed and learn to manage my emotions on the field,” he explained. His twin, Kriish, who plays in defence, expressed gratitude to their parents, Jiwa and Tarveen Kaur, for the unwavering support they have given throughout their hockey journey.
“We wouldn’t have come this far without the support of our parents. We feel honoured to be given the opportunity to play in the German League, and we’re especially grateful to our father for making it possible,” said Kriish. “This experience will allow us to pick up new techniques and tactics that can take our game to the next level. My dream is to represent Australia in the Junior World Cup and other major international tournaments. Our father played for Malaysia in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2002 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, and we’re determined to follow in his footsteps and achieve success of our own.”
The twins have already built an impressive track record with Victoria, helping the team capture the Australian Under-13 title in 2022 before finishing runners-up the following year. They also played a key role in the Under-14 competition last year, where Victoria once again secured second place.
Most recently, Kryshant and Kriish represented Penang in the Malaysia Junior League. Kryshant found the net three times while Kriish added a goal of his own, as the team placed seventh out of 10 in Division One.
Together, Yashica, Kryshant, and Kriish are carrying forward the sporting legacy of their father, Olympian Jiwa Mohan, each charting their own path in different disciplines. With Yashica’s promising start in squash and the twins’ rapid rise in hockey, the Mohan siblings are proving that talent, hard work, and family support can pave the way to international success. As they continue to grow and compete on bigger stages, their journeys will be closely watched—not just as the children of an Olympian, but as young athletes determined to create legacies of their own.
