Batik Air has announced the return of its direct service from Kuala Lumpur International (KLIA) to Osaka Kansai International Airport (KIX), beginning 15th December 2025, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening connectivity between Malaysia and Japan.
The reinstated route comes a year after the airline suspended its previous Kuala Lumpur-Osaka service via Taipei, which was operated with the Boeing 737. This time, Batik Air will deploy the larger Airbus A330, featuring 12 Business Class seats and 365 Economy Class Seats, providing passengers with a more spacious and comfortable long-haul travel experience.

The service will operate three times weekly, giving travellers direct and convenient access to Japan’s cultural and culinary capital. Batik Air Chief Executive, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, described the Osaka route as one of the airline’s most anticipated returns.
“Japan continues to be a dream destination for many Malaysians, and Osaka holds a unique charm with its rich history, vibrant urban culture, and extraordinary food scene. By reintroducing this route on the A330, we are not only reconnecting two dynamic cities but also elevating the journey with added comfort and convenience.”
Osaka: A Gateway to Culture and Cuisine
Often celebrated as the ‘Kitchen of Japan’, Osaka is a city renowned for its vibrant food scene, offering everything from streets delicacies like takoyaki and okonomiyaki to world-class Michelin-starred dining. Beyond its culinary delights, the city boasts iconic landmarks such as Osaka Castle, the bustling neon-lit Dotonbori district, and the family-friendly Universal Studios Japan, one of Asia’s most visited theme parks.

Strengthening Malaysia-Japan Links
The revival of the Kuala Lumpur-Osaka service is part of Batik Air’s broader growth strategy is North Asia. Japan continues to be a top destination for Malaysian travellers, particularly during winter and cherry blossom seasons, while Malaysia itself attracts increasing numbers of Japanese tourist seeking its beaches, heritage cities, and cultural diversity.

The airline’s renewed focus also aligns with Visit Malaysia 2026, expected to boost Japanese arrivals and further position KLIA as a vital regional hub with seamless onward connections across Indonesia, ASEAN and beyond.
Ticket Fares
Fares for the Kuala Lumpur-Osaka flights start from RM599 for Economy Class and RM3599 for Business Class, one-way, inclusive of all charges. With the introduction of the Airbus A330 on this key route, Batik Air aims to ensure that both leisure and business travellers can enjoy a direct, comfortable, and memorable journey making the experience as rewarding as the destination itself.
