Malaysian Indian entertainment has been gaining remarkable attention, from movies and songs to music videos and beyond. This Malaysia Day, we celebrate 5 Malaysian Indian singers who not only created global hit songs but also collaborated with world-renowned artists — making our nation proud on the international stage.

Malaysia Vasudevan

When we talk about Malaysian Indian singers, one name that will forever remain iconic is Malaysia Vasudevan. He was the pioneer who brought recognition to our nation in India’s entertainment industry. His debut track, “Paalu Vikkira Padma Un Paalu Romba Suthhama?” in the film Delhi to Madras, opened the doors to a legendary career.

From then on, he went on to sing thousands of songs across Tamil cinema and beyond, earning a permanent place in music history. Honoured with the prestigious Kalaimamani award by the Tamil Nadu government for his contribution to arts and culture.

Malaysia Vasudevan’s voice remains timeless — a melody that still plays in the hearts and playlists of many today.

Yogi B

When it comes to hip hop, one name stands tall — Yogi B, the man who introduced Tamil hip hop to the world. His breakthrough hit “Madai Thiranthu” proved that Tamil rap could capture hearts globally.

He later made his mark in Kollywood with tracks like “Engeyum Eppothum” in Polladhavan,  “Thani Vazhi” in Darbar and more. In 2019, he was honoured with the Behindwoods Icon of Inspiration award for his contribution to music.

This Malaysia Day, we celebrate Yogi B as a pioneer who proudly carried our nation’s sound onto the world stage.

 Darkkey Nagaraja

Since the early 2000s, Darkkey has carved his place as Malaysia’s very own Indian Metal Hip-Hop star, delivering countless hits that remain iconic to this day. His breakthrough track Arakkana (2000) was later remixed into Ak – The Tiger for the film Good Bad Ugly, composed by the ever-popular G.V. Prakash Kumar. This collaboration pushed Darkkey further into the international spotlight.

Known for his energetic, head-bopping beats, his songs have become staples at concerts, festivals, and even long road trips. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the music industry, Darkkey was honoured with the prestigious Behindwoods Gold Icon Award.

 Balan Kash

Balan Kash is quickly rising as one of Malaysia’s most exciting Indian rap and hip-hop talents. His hit track Start That Thiruvizha has remained a crowd favorite, continuing to capture attention and hype ever since its release

His latest release, Cekap, is a Malay rap anthem that echoes Malaysia’s strength in diversity, celebrating culture, language, and unity as one nation. His artistry and unique voice were recently recognised with a nomination for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song at Anugerah Industri Muzik 2025.

Sri Rascol

Sri Rascol is one of the rising stars in Tamil rap and hip-hop, capturing the hearts of many with his powerful tracks. His collaboration with Teejay on the hit Vellai Poove remains a timeless favourite among today’s youth.

Known for his deep, commanding hip-hop voice, Sri Rascol caught the attention of none other than Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman. This recognition led to an incredible opportunity — lending his voice to Showkali, composed by A.R. Rahman for the film Acham Yenbathu Madamaiyada.

Taking pride a step further, Sri Rascol has also shared the stage with the legendary composer himself, performing Showkali live — a moment that solidified his place as one of Malaysia’s finest exports in the music scene.
