Traffic in the city centre will be heavily affected today as 10 major roads are closed for the Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2025 (MSMR), an event held in conjunction with Malaysia Day and as part of the Road to Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the event, beginning at 3pm in front of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) on Jalan Ampang, is expected to draw more than 15,000 participants. Runners will take part in two main categories, the 5KM Malaysia Speed Run and the 5KM Fun Run.
Roads closures and diversion will begin at 2.30PM. Roads will reopen in stages and are expected to be fully restored by 8PM.

The affected roads are:
- Jalan P. Ramlee
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Pinang
- Jalan Kia Peng
- Jalan Stonor
- Jalan Conlay
- Jalan Raja Chulan
- Jalan Bukit Bintang
- Jalan Sultan Ismail
- Jalan Ampang (stretch from Jalan Tun Razak heading to KLCC / from Malaysian Rubber Board heading to Jalan Tun Razak).
Motorist have been urged to avoid these areas and use alternative routes during the closure period. Police and event marshals will be stationed along the route to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety.
Organisers noted that the Malaysia Sarong Music Run is not just a sporting event but also a cultural showcase. Participants are encouraged to don traditional sarongs while running or walking, blending fitness with heritage. Live music performances and cultural showcases will be featured along the route to create a festive atmosphere.
The event is also seen as a curtain-raiser to the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, highlighting Malaysia’s diverse traditions while promoting healthy lifestyles and community bonding.
For those heading into the city, public transportation such as the LRT Kelana Jaya Line (KLCC Station) and MRT Bukit Bintang Station is recommended to avoid congestion.
