Batik Air Malaysia is expanding it’s regional network with the launch of new flights connecting Singapore to Penang, Ipoh,and Subang, beginning in December 2025. The move is set to provide Singapore travellers with faster, more convenient options to popular Malaysian destinations while boosting the country’s tourism economy.
The new services will operate once daily, with flights to Penang and Ipoh, on the Boeing 737 MAX, and flights to Subang on the Boeing 737-800. These short-haul routes will cut travel time to under an hour, offering an alternative long road journeys and busy border crossings.
Boost for Penang Tourism
Penang, in particular, is expected to benefit significantly from the new connectivity. State Tourism and Economic Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said Singapore has consistently ranked among Penang’s top three source markets, with visitors known for strong spending power.

The new Batik Air flights will complement efforts to expand Penang’s international reach. From 26th October, HK Express will also increase the frequency of it’s Hong Kong, Penang flights from one to two daily. Wong noted that both Singapore and Hong Kong are major global aviation hubs and improved links from these getaways will bring Penang more exposure and strengthen it’s position in the international route network.
Convenience for Travellers
Batik Air’s new routes will operate out of Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 4, where passengers can take advantage of fast check-in services as well as shopping, dining, and entertainment before boarding.
From Singapore, travellers, the expansion opens up easier access to Malaysia’s diverse offerings from Penang’s famous street food and heritage sites, to Ipoh’s colonial charm, and Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant city life.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
With the addition of these flights, Batik Air Malaysia further consolidates it’s role in linking Malaysia’s key cites to Singapore, supporting tourism growth and creating new opportunities for local businesses and SMEs in sectors such as hospitality, food, and retail.

Industry observers say the new connectivity also reflects closer ties between Malaysia and it’s regional neighbours, with airlines playing a key role in facilitating people-to-people links and business exchanges.
