In celebration of Deepavali, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has released a touching short film titled ‘Demi Deepa’, an inspiring story about sacrifice, hope, and the strength of family bonds.

The seven-minute film follows Uncle Ganesan and his family as they navigate life’s hardships to help his daughter, Deepa, pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. The narrative sheds light not only on the power of perseverance and love but also brings attention to the importance of mental health awareness, a theme thoughtfully interwoven throughout the story.

Inspired by the real-life journey of Dr. Malar Santhi, a medical doctor and social media influencer known for her accessible health advice and eloquent communication in Bahasa Melayu, ‘Demi Deepa’, celebrates the beauty of human resilience. Dr. Malar herself makes a special appearance in the film, alongside actor Amirul Affendy, who has appeared in Air Selangor’s previous festive films for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya, continuing the company’s overarching theme of ‘Bahagia’ (Happiness).

A Story of Love, Sacrifice, and Resilience

Head of Corporate Communications at Air Selangor, Elina Baseri, said the film carries a message that transcends the festive season.

“We are honoured to share this inspiring story through ‘Demi Deepa’. The film not only showcases a father’s sacrifice for his daughter but also underscores the importance of good mental health in shaping a positive outlook on life”, she said.

Eline added that Air Selangor’s ongoing ‘Happiness’ campaign series aims to remind Malaysians to appreciate the simple joys of family life and to remain optimistic, even in challenging times.

“Through our festive campaign series themed ‘Happiness’, we hope to inspire viewers to cherish every moment of joy with their families and to remain optimistic in facing life’s challenges”, she said.

Illuminating the Spirit of Deepavali

Beyond its emotional storytelling, ‘Demi Deepa’, embodies the true essence of Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, where love and sacrifice triumph over hardship, and hope dispels darkness. The film invites viewers to reflect on how small acts of kindness and understanding can bring lasting happiness to families and communities.

Viewers can watch ‘Demi Deepa’ beginning 5th October on hydrohub.airselangor.com and Air Selangor’s official Facebook, Instagram and Youtube channels
