In an extraordinary display of musical brilliance, six-year-old Shivankh Varun Varadharajan, a German-Tamil boy born and raised in Dubai has made history by earning a Guinness World Record for identifying 16 classical music composers by ear in just one minute. The record-breaking feat, achieved on 14th September in Dubai has earned the young prodigy global admiration and recognition as a rare musical talent.
During the official attempt, short excerpts from works by great composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Richard Strauss, Johan Strauss, Rossini and Brahms were played. With striking precision, composure, and speed, Shivankh identified all composers correctly, a performance that Guinness World Records described as ‘an extraordinary musical gift’.
A Gift That Spoke Before World Did
Music has always been a natural part of Shivankh’s world. His mother, Yalini Varadharajan, shared that symphonies and classical compositions have filled their home since his infancy. Even before he turned three, Shivankh would respond instinctively to rhythm and melody, often distinguishing between instruments or identifying the mood of a piece long before he could read or write.
Yalini recalled. “Even at two years old, his way of listening to music was different. He could recognise orchestral tunes even in cartoons like Tom and Jerry.”

Born to German-Tamil parents, Shivankh is described by his family as neurodivergent, and music, they say, is his language of communication and comfort. Over time, his ability to perceive and interpret sound developed into a profound skill, distinguishing between classical composers with near-perfect accuracy, recognizing minute differences in phrasing, and connecting each tone to emotion.

Hearing the World Through Rhythm
Shivankh’s family believes he doesn’t just listen to music, he sees the world through it, “To him, people’s voices sometimes sound fast like Rimsky-Korsakov and sometimes calm like Chopin,” said his mother. This extraordinary sense of musical perception sets him apart from other children. His ability to “hear” emotions in sound has become his unique way of connecting with the world.”
This unique perception of sound and rhythm has not only shaped his communication but also his empathy and awareness. For Shivankh, melody is meaning, and each symphony is a conversation between heart and mind.

A Record That Resonates Beyond Achievement
The Guinness recognition is more than a world record, it is a celebration of how diverse minds perceive the world differently. Shivankh’s achievement serves as a reminder that genius often emerges in unexpected forms nurtured by patience, encouragement, and acceptance.
Yalini offered a heartfelt message to parents: “Every child has a different world inside them. Just pause and listen them. Don’t compare. Their uniqueness will reveal itself.”
As Shivankh’s story spreads across the globe, it inspires not just admiration but reflection, that when children are allowed to express themselves freely, their potential can reach symphonic heights.
