The government is exploring the possibility of integrating school surveillance systems with the PDRM network to enable real-time monitoring and strengthen safety in schools nationwide.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the initiative aims to enhance security measures amid growing concerns over school-related incidents, including bullying, assault and other serious crimes.
The Education Ministry (MOE) has allocated RM8 Million for the installation of CCTV cameras in schools across the country. The proposed systems, if implemented, will connect school CCTV networks directly to PDRM’s existing monitoring infrastructure. The integration would allow law enforcement to observe live feeds, improving response times, and coordination during emergencies.
The plan also considers the technical compatibility of the systems, including hardware, software, and networking capabilities, to ensure seamless connectivity between schools and police monitoring centres.
In addition to the surveillance initiative, Saifuddin said the Home Ministry has instructed police to increase patrols and maintain stronger visibility around school areas. The move is part of the government’s broader effort to foster safer learning environments through both preventing and responsive measures.

The announcement comes as the government faces mounting concern over the rising number of school-related violence cases. From 2022, to 2025, police recorded 687 cases of bullying in schools, including 105 incidents in just the first half of 2025.
Following recent amendments to the Penal Code, new provisions, Section 507B to 507G were introduced to categorise and address bullying as a specific criminal offense. Under these laws, 87 bullying cases have been investigated between August and September this year.
Authorities have also documented 112 rape cases within school premises over the past 3 years, alongside two murder cases involving students, one from Lahad Datu Vocational College and another from SMK Bandar Utama.
A Step Toward Safer Schools
The government’s proposed PDRM-linked CCTV system reflects a proactive approach to tackling safety concerns within educational institutions. By combining surveillance technology with on-ground police presence, authorities hope to create an environment where students and educators can feel secure and protected.\
