Malaysian badminton stars Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah have climbed to the top of the World Tour Finals rankings for the first time in their career, a major milestone that underscores their consistency and dominance on the stage.
The women’s doubles pair now lead the standings with 104,860 points, edging out China’s Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning, who follows closely with 103,150 points. The World Tour Finals ranking, which only considers points from World Tour events, is separate from the official Badminton World Federation (BWF) world rankings.
In the official world rankings, Pearly and Thinaah remain second with 91, 316 points while Liu and Tan continue to hold the top position with 110, 884 points.
The achievement marks a major confidence boost for the Malaysian duo as they prepare for a demanding end-of-season schedule. They are set to compete in two back-to-back tournaments, the Japan Masters in Kumamoto from 11th November, and the Australia Open from 18th November to 23rd November.

Pearly and Thinaah will enter both tournaments as top seeds, following Liu and Tan’s decision to skip the events. This gives the Malaysians a prime opportunity to extend their ranking lead and close the gap in the official standings.
The pair will then turn their focus to the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou from 17th December to 21st December, where they hope to break new ground. Despite qualifying for the elite tournament in past seasons, they have yet to advance beyond the group stage, a challenge they are determined to overcome this year.

Observers have hailed the pair’s rise as a reflection of their steady form and tactical growth throughout 2025. Their consistent performance in major tournaments, coupled with strategic planning of their competition calendar, have placed them among the world’s elite.
For Malaysian badminton fans, Pearly and Thinaah’s latest achievement represents more than a personal triumph, it signals the resurgence of Malaysia’s women’s doubles discipline on the global stage.
As they gear up for the final stretch of the season, all eyes will be on the dynamic duo to see whether they can convert their momentum into a historic breakthrough at the World Tour Finals, and potentially the world No.1 spot.
