Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi’s 2024 blockbuster Amaran continues it’s winning streak on the global stage, as the film has been selected to open the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

The biographical action drama, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy has also earned a nomination for the prestigious Golden Peacock Award under the International Competition category, a significant recognition for the Tamil film industry.

Produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International in association with Sony Pictures International Productions, Amaran tells the inspiring true story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a decorated Indian Army officer who was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his bravery during a counterterrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sivakarthikeyan portrayed the role of Major Mukund, while Sai Pallavi stars as his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film features, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Mohan, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman, and Gaurav Venkatesh in supporting roles.

Sharing the news on social media, Kamal Haasan expressed pride in the film’s achievement. “Proud to share the immortal Major Mukund Varadarajan’s story that stirred India’s soul will now echo across the world.”

Upon it’s theatrical release on 31st October 2024, Amaran received glowing reviews from both critics and audiences who praised it’s performances, direction, and emotionally charged narrative. The music composed by G.V Prakash Kumar, was lauded for complementing the film’s tone and intensity.

The film’s technical team includes cinematographer C.H. Sai, editor Kalaivanan, and stunt choreographer Stefan Richter. Based on Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s best-selling book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military, Amaran has been celebrated as one of Tamil cinema’s most powerful patriotic dramas in recent years and it’s selection at IFFI 2025 further cements that legacy.
