IFFK 2025: ‘Bad Girl’, ‘Homebound’ Among Films Selected for Kaleidoscope Section

The Kerala State Chalachithra Academy has unveiled the list of films selected for the Kaleidoscope category at the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) set to take place in Thiruvananthapuram from 12th December to 19th December. The curated lineup features eight acclaimed titles from across India, highlighting a diverse and powerful mix of regional cinema.

Among the standout selection is Neeraj’s Ghaywan’s Homebound, India’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. Also featured in Rohan Parashuram Kanawade’s Marathi Film Cactus Pears (Sabar Bonda), which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, a major achievement for Indian Independent cinema.

A Diverse Slate Across Languages and Genres

The Kaleidoscope category brings together some of 2024’s most talked-about titles, including:

  • Varsha Bharath’s Bad Girl: a Tamil film that has already sparked wide discussion for it’s bold themes and progressive storytelling 
  • Maharshi Tuhin Kashyap’s Kok Kok Kookoook: Known for it’s inventive narrative style
  • Vinod Kapri’s Pyre: a poignant drama exploring social divides.
  • Nidhi Saxena’s Secret of a Mountain Serpent: a mysterious, atmospheric tale rooted in folklore
  • Tribeny Rai’s Shape of Momo (Nepali): celebrated for it’s lyrical storytelling
  • Nareesh Hegde’s Tiger’s Pond (Vaghachipani): a landmark Kannada film with am international footprint

Tiger’s Pond (Vaghachipani) holds a special distinction as the first Kannada-language film to screen at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film also stars acclaimed Malayalam actor-director Dileesh Pothan in a key role, adding further anticipation among regional cinema fans.

The Kaleidoscope lineup at the 30th IFFK reflects an exceptional year for Indian cinema across languages, blending festival favourites, breakout voices, and internationally recognised works. The festival, known for championing progressive filmmaking and artistic diversity, is expected to draw thousands of cinephiles from across the country and beyond when it begins on 12th December.
