Director Venkat Prabhu and actor Sivakarthikeyan have flown to Los Angeles to begin advanced VFX preparations for their highly anticipated sci-fi project, tentatively titled SK26. The move signals the scale and ambition of the film, which is reportedly being made on a massive budget and will feature Sivakarthikeyan in dual roles.
According the industry sources, the duo visited Lola VFX, one of Hollywood’s leading digital effects studios known for facial de-aging, hyper-realistic scans, and digital doubles. The team conducted a 3D digital scan of Sivakarthikeyan’s face and body, the same cutting-edge technique Venkat Prabhu previously used to create Vijay’s younger avatar in The Greatest of All Time (2024).
A Big-Budget Sci-Fi Film With High Expectations
Speculations suggest that SK26 will be a science-fiction entertainer, potentially involving time-travel elements, though the makers have not officially confirmed the storyline. Venkat Prabhu has hinted that Sivakarthikeyan will be seen in a never-before-attempted role, describing the script as ‘fun’ and appealing to audiences across age groups.
At a recent awards event, the director revealed that the script is locked and that Sivakarthikeyan is ‘very happy’ with how it has turned out. The film is reportedly produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, continuing a popular director-composer collaboration.
Buss in the industry also suggest that Kalyani Priyadarshan may be cast as the female lead. If confirmed this will mark her second collaboration with Venkat Prabhu after Maanaadu (2021) and her second film with Sivakarthikeyan after Hero (2019). Her involvement is expected to generate further excitement, especially following her breakout performance in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
Sivakarthikeyan’s Busy Slate Ahead
Sivakarthikeyan, who recently appeared in a cameo in Venkat Prabhu’s GOAT, is currently awaiting the release of Parasakthi, Sudha Kongara’s political period frama based on the Anti-Hindi agitations of 1965. The film stars Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, and Atharvaa.
Hollywood-Level Prep for a Tamil Blockbuster
With VFX work beginning at a world-class studio like Lola VFX, expectations surrounding SK26 have skyrocketed. The combination of Venkat Prabhu’s experimental filmmaking, Sivakarthikeyan’s versatility, and cutting-edge technology has already positioned the film as one of Tamil cinema’s most ambitious ventures in recent years. Official announcement on title, plot and cast, are expected soon.
