Singapore sprint queen Shanti Pereira has etched her name even deeper into Southeast Asian athletics history, becoming the first Singaporean woman to complete a back-to-back 100m and 200m SEA Games double, achieving the feat at both the 2023, and 2025 editions of the Games.
A Historic “Double-Double”
The 29-year-old sprinter delivered another commanding performance at the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok, retaining her women’s 100m title on 11th December with a time of 11.36 seconds. Just two days later, she returned to the track at the Supachalasai National Stadium to claim gold in the 200m, clocking 23.05 seconds to seal her second sprint crown of the Games.
Vietnam’s Le Thi Cam Tu finished second in the 200m with 23.14 seconds, while Zion Nelson of the Philippines took bronze in 23.50 seconds.
Repeating a Rare Feat
Pereira had previously completed the sprint double at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, making her latest triumph a rare “double-double”, winning both the 100m and 200m titles at two consecutive SEA Games. The achievement places her in an elite regional category, alongside Vietnam’s Vu Thi Huong, who accomplished the feat in 2007 and 2009.
Cementing Sprint Supremacy
Already Singapore’s premier sprinter, Pereira also holds the national 200m record of 22.57 seconds, underlining her consistency and dominance in the discipline. Her performances in Bangkok reaffirm her status as one of Southeast Asia’s most formidable track athletes and mark a significant milestone for Singapore athletics on the regional stage.
With her historic double-double now secured, Pereira continues to redefined what is possible for Singaporean women in sprinting, setting a new benchmark for future generations.
