In conjunction with Thaipusam 2026, the Penang Hind Endowments Board (PHEB) has announced a special initiative to provide transportation services for senior citizens and persons with disabilities to the Hilltop Murugan Temple.
The initiative organised in collaboration with Kuil Thanneermalai Shree Balathandayuthapani Devasthanam, aims to ensure that elderly devotees and those with limited physical abilities can safely fulfill their prayers, vows and religious obligations during the annual Thaipusam celebration.

According to PHEB, the programme is designed to prioritise the safety and well being of vulnerable devotees especially with the expected increase in the number of devotees attending Thaipusam 2026. The service also seeks to reduce the risk of injuries caused by steep stairways and to minimise exposure to contagious illnesses which can spread easily in crowded conditions.
The initiative is scheduled to take place on 4 January 2026, Sunday. PHEB also confirmed that food refreshments also will be provided at the lower area near Ganesha Temple for the devotees. The board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the safety, welfare and comfort of devotees particularly senior citizens and persons with disabilities during the Thaipusam celebrations.
