Batik Air marked the departure of 140 Ayyappan Swamy devotees from Malaysia with a special send-off ceremony at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA Terminal 1), as they embarked on their sacred pilgrimage to Tiruchirappalli, India.

The ceremony, attended by YB Tuan Gunarajah R. George, ADUN Sentosa, highlighted Batik Air’s continued commitment to supporting meaningful journeys and long-standing religious traditions. The annual Ayyappan Swamy pilgrimage is observed by more than 50,000 devotees each year, drawing participants from across the region.

In response to the growing number of Malaysian devotees travelling to India for the pilgrimage, Batik Air introduced dedicated facilitation measures this year. These included organizing a coordinated send-off at KLIA and ensuring smooth travel arrangements to provide a respectful and seamless start to the pilgrims spiritual journey.

Batik Air Chief Executive Officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline recognizes the deep spiritual significance of the pilgrimage and the responsibility involved in facilitating such travel.

“The Ayyappan Swamy pilgrimage carries deep spiritual meaning for the devotees, and we want their journey to begin in a manner that reflects dignity, care, and respect. Beyond transporting passengers, it is about understanding the significance of their purpose and ensuring their experience is handled with sensitivity and attention”, he said.

He added that Batik Air aims to make the beginning of the pilgrimage a meaningful and memorable experience, setting a positive tone for the journey ahead.

As part of the send-off, Batik Air also presented devotees with a small gift of ghee, courtesy of Enrico, in support of essential religious requirements associated with the pilgrimage.
