As the Tamil community prepares to welcome Ponggal 2026, understanding the auspicious timings is essential to observe Thai Ponggal in accordance with tradition and spiritual significance. Celebrated to mark the beginning of the Thai month, Ponggal symbolises gratitude to nature, the Sun God, and the harvest that sustains life.

Birth of the Thai Month

The Thai month begins on January 14, 2026, at 9:23pm. This moment marks the Sun’s transition, an important celestial event that signifies renewal, prosperity and new beginnings.

Auspicious Timings for Thai Ponggal

Thai Ponggal will be celebrated on January 15, 2026, and it is encouraged to perform Ponggal rituals during the following auspicious time windows:

  • 6:10am – 7:20am

  • 9:10am – 11:30am

  • 4:20pm – 6:20pm

These time periods are considered auspicious for preparing the traditional Ponggal dish, offering prayers, and expressing gratitude to the Sun God for abundance and well-being.

By observing the correct timings, families can ensure that their Ponggal celebrations remain rooted in tradition while welcoming the festive spirit with positivity and devotion. As homes prepare for kolams, sugarcane, and shared meals, Thai Ponggal 2026 serves as a reminder of harmony with nature and the joy of togetherness.
