A group of talented students from Tamil schools and national secondary schools in Penang has brought immense pride to Malaysia after winning 80 medals at the World Robot Games (WRG) 2025 held in Taipei, Taiwan from 25 November to 1 December 2025.
Malaysian team compromised 24 young competitors with the majority coming from Tamil-medium schools who showcased outstanding skills in various robotics and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) categories across the event.

Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Penang State Housing and Environment Committee chairman and also chairman of the Penang Tamil Schools Special Committee expressed deep pride in the achievements of the Tamil school students calling their performance “exceptional” and “inspirational”. He emphasised the importance of giving students access to global technology platforms, especially in robotics and innovation.
The success of them was celebrated at an appreciation ceremony held in George Town, which was attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, state MIC chairman Datuk J. Dhinagaran, and representatives from Syscore Academy which trained the students for the competition.

Chow praised the students’ discipline, resilience and creativity and highlighted that their achievements reflect the importance of STEM education in preparing Malaysia’s youth for the technological challenges of the future. The impressive haul of medals not only brings honour to the Tamil school community in Penang but also underscores the region’s growing strength in robotics and innovation on the international stage.
This achievement is expected to inspire more young Malaysians, especially Tamil school students to pursue excellence in STEM fields and to continue representing the country in future global competitions.
