IMDb Reveals the Most Anticipated Indian Films of 2026

Indian cinema is headed with heightened expectations in 2026, and IMDb’s list of Most Anticipated Indian Films of the Year reflects a slate driven by scale, star power, and pan-Indian ambition. From mythological epics and political dramas to action spectacles and franchise sequels, the lineup points to a year built for big screen storytelling. 

Shah Rukh Khan Leads the Anticipation

Topping the list is ‘King’, directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Shah Rukh Khan alongside Deepika Padukone. With it’s intense first-look visuals and action-heavy promise, the film has emerged as IMDb users most awaited release of 2026, positioning itself as a major cinematic event.

Mythology and Mass Appeal Dominate the Top Tier

Close behind at No.2 is Ramayana Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Sunny Deol. The mythological epic is already being viewed as a landmark project for it’s scale and pan-Indian casting.

The Top 5 continues with Jana Nayagan (No.3), starring Vijay in a political role, Spirit (No.4), directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and led by Prabhas, and Toxic (No.5), with Yash headlining a stylized action drama.

Action Franchise and Patriotic Narratives

The list also features large-scale franchise and patriotic releases such as Battle of Galwan (No.6), led by Salman Khan, and YRF’s spy-universe expansion Alpha (No.7), starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, marking a significant moment for female led-action films.

Sequels and Fresh Concepts Round Out the Top 10

Completing the Top 10 are Dhurandhar 2 (No.8), Border 2 (No.9) and LIK: Love Insurance Kompany (No.10), blending nostalgia-driven sequels with new-age concepts aimed at younger audiences.

Beyond the Top 10: Star Power Meets Experimentation

Anticipation remains strong beyond the top tier. Fauzi (No.11) adds another high-scale project to Prabhas lineup, while The Paradise (No.12) places Nani in a performance-led narrative.

A Ram Charan project directed by Buchi Babu Sana ranks at No.13, followed by Dragon (No.14), starring N.T Rama Rao Jr, both expected to deliver mass appeal with emotional depth.

Romance, Horror and Unconventional Pairings

Genre variety defines the latter half of the list. Love & War (No.15), starring Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, brings relationship-driven drama to the mix, while Bhoot Bangla (No.16) sees Akshay Kumar return to the horror-comedy space.

Benz (No.17), starring Raghava Lawrence and Nivin Pauly, stands out for it’s unexpected casting combination, hinting at a blend of mass cinema and performance-led storytelling.

Women-Led Stories and Powerhouse Ensembles

Shakthi Shalini (No.18), headlined by Aneet Padda, reflects growing interest in women-centric narratives. Meanwhile, Patriot (No.19), featuring Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil and Mohanlal, promises ideological depth and strong ensemble performances.

The Top 20 concludes with O Romeo (No.20) starring Shahid Kapoor and Tripti Dimri, generating curiosity as a contemporary romantic drama.
