And you thought the #MeToo movement had no power.. well, think again.

The Vijay TV reality show has garnered faithful audience from across the globe, who frowned in synchrony when a contestant admitted to groping women in public transportations. In an episode a few days ago, actor Saravanan openly admitted to groping women in public to the host of the show Kamal Hassan.

Kamal Hassan was trying to diffuse a friction between Cheran and Meera. During this dialogue, Actor Saravanan, who is known for roles in films like Paruthiveeran, admitted to such lewd behaviour in his younger days. What was even more disgusting was that the audience proceeded to cheer and laugh the incident off.

The whole scene did not sit well with a lot of people including the spearhead of #MeToo movement in India, singer Chinmayi. She tweeted about the incident saying, “A Tamil channel aired a man proudly proclaiming he used the Public Bus Transport system to molest/grope women – to cheers from the audience. And this is a joke. To the audience. To the women clapping. To the molester. Damn.”

This is the first time in Bigg Boss Tamil history that a contestant has been evicted without the process of voting and elimination. Saravanan was called into the confession room and Bigg Boss told the actor, “The team could not pay much attention to your comments on national television because we were focusing on the issue between Meera and Cheran (wherein the former accused the director of manhandling her). Even though you apologised for your statement, we can’t take this lightly. Crores of families across the world are watching the program, and we wish to condemn the incident. So you cannot continue on the show and are evicted.
