The Johor State Government has approved land ownership for a Hindu Temple and two Tamil primary schools, marking a significant milestone in addressing long-standing land issues faced by the Indian community in the state. The approvals reflect the state government’s continued commitment to inclusive governance, community welfare and social harmony.
Historic Land Approval for Kuil Sri Muniswarar, Plentong
After nearly 50 years of applications, Kuil Sri Muniswarar Plentong in Masai, Johor Bahru has officially received its land approval letter, bringing relief to the temple management committee and devotees.
The approval was given under the leadership of Johor Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee and Johor’s Malaysia Indian Congress (MIC) Chairman, Raven Kumar Krishnasamy. He acknowledged the role of Chief Minister of Johor, Dato Onn Hafiz Ghazi, for initiating the Non-Islamic Houses of Worship Task of Force to address the unresolved land issues involving religious instituitions.

The task force, chaired by Johor State Secretary YB Dato’ Haji Asman Shah Abd. Rahman and co-led by Raven Kumar, involves various government agencies working collaboratively to resolve complex cases, particularly those affecting the Indian community. Through this coordinated effort, the land approval for Kuil Sri Muniswarar Plentong was successfully finalised in a transparent and committed manner.
Six-Acre Land Approval for Two Tamil Primary Schools
In a separate development, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Mados and SJKT Ladang Sembrong have also received approval for six-acre land site, resolving a long-standing issue that has affected both schools for years.
The matter had been under the attention of Raven Kumar Krishnasamy since 2022 and was elevated through several high-level meetings chaired by him until a resolution was reached. The issue also received direct support from Dato Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who provided full commitment to ensure the approvals were expedited.

Johor Education Exco, Aznan Tamin was also acknowledged for his role in resolving technical matters involving the Education Department through roundtable discussions, ensuring a smooth and effective approval process. The land approvals are seen as a major boost for Tamil education in Johor, providing stability and opportunities for future development of the schools.
The approvals for both the temple and the Tamil schools are being hailed as historic achievements for Indian community in Johor, supported by various non-governmental organisations and individuals who have long advocated for these causes.
