Deputy Minister of Education Wong Kah Woh has announced that Tamil and Chinese language subjects will be included in the national examinations, as part of the education reforms earlier unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Under the new assessment structure, Year Four students will take a centralized national examination that covers four core subjects: Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, students from Tamil primary schools will take an exam for the Tamil language, while students from Chinese primary schools will sit for the Chinese language exam.

For Form Three students, the national examination will assess five core subjects (Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science and History). Students from Tamil and Chinese streams will likewise sit for examinations in their respective mother tongue languages.
Wong said all examination papers will be prepared by the Examination Board under the Ministry of Education, ensuring standardised assessment across schools.
He also assured that the inclusion of Tamil and Chinese subjects reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding mother tongue education, stressing that Indian students will not be excluded from learning Tamil under the new system.
