AirAsia is ramping up operation to meet heightened travel demand ahead of the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday, with the airline operating 4,434 flights nationwide from 12th to 24th February 2026 to help Malaysians reunite with family and loved ones.
To accommodate one of the busiest travel periods of the year, the low-cost carrier has added 150 additional domestic flights, increasing seat capacity and providing greater flexibility for travellers planning festive journeys across the country.
Supporting Affordable Festive Travel
AirAsia Malaysia General Manager Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra said the airline remains committed to making festive travel accessible, particularly during peak seasons.
“As the airline with the largest domestic connectivity in Malaysia and a leading market share of 61% by capacity, we are pleased to continue supporting government initiatives to ensure Malaysians are able to travel more affordably during peak festive periods”, he said.
He added that for the upcoming Chinese New Year, AirAsia is offering subsidised all-in one-way fares of up to RM600, inclusive of a complimentary 20KG checked baggage allowance, for selected routes between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. These fares are offered alongside the airline’s previously announced fixed-fare initiatives.

“With all these extra flights, there are still plenty of seats up for grabs,” he said.
Enhanced Connectivity Across Key Routes
Key hubs including Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Penang (PEN), and Johor Bahru (JHB) will see enhanced connectivity to destinations across East Malaysia, ensuring smoother travel during the festive rush.

- Penang to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching
- Johor Bahru to Kota Kinabalu, Kuching,Miri, Sibu and Tawau

Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey

Passengers are also encouraged to arrive early at the airport, with baggage drop counters opening three hours before departure for international flights and two hours prior for domestic flights, to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.
