Schools in Johor’s Kota Tinggi district will continue normal operations despite recent detections of tuberculosis (TB) among students, state authorities confirmed today.
The Johor Education and Information Committee chairman, Aznan Tamin, said no official order has been issued to close any schools following the identification of TB cases in the area. He clarified that decisions about school closures are the responsibility of the district health office (Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah).
The TB cases involve six students from five different schools, three primary and two secondary in the district. All students at the affected schools have undergone full health screenings conducted by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

In response, the district health office (Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah) has completed sanitation and deep cleaning of areas deemed at risk and has run engagement sessions with school leadership to ensure proper safety measures. Aznan also said that medical officers will soon visit these schools to provide staff and students with more information about Tubercolusis (TB) and how to prevent its spread.
Authorities have urged schools to continue following MOH guidelines and discouraged the sharing of unverified information that could cause public concern. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to working with health officials to manage the situation transparently and protect student well-being.
Tuberculosis is a contagious disease that spreads through the air, most commonly affecting the lungs. It can be treated and managed effectively with proper medical care, but early detection and preventive screening remain crucial in controlling its spread.
