CelcomDigi Bhd has confirmed the appointment of Albern Murty as it’s group chief executive officer, following his tenure as acting CEO since September 2025.
The telecommunication group said the appointment was finalised after an extensive search process that considered both internal and external candidates, aimed at identifying the strongest leadership to steer the company into it’s next phase. The announcement was made by CelcomDigi board chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahduddin Raja Abdul Aziz in a statement on Tuesday.
Albern stepped into the acting CEO role following the departure of former chief executive Datuk Idham Nawawi. Prior to that, he played a key role in guiding the company through the integration of Celcome Axiata Bhd and Digi. Com Bhd, which merged on 30th November 2022, serving first as deputy CEO.
With more than 22 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, Albern previously served as chief executive officer of Digi for seven years, bringing continuity and deep industry expertise to the role.
“The board looks forward to working closely with him and the management team to execute CelcomDigi’s strategic ambitions, drive future growth as Malaysia’s trusted connectivity partner, strengthen governance, and build an organisation that is among the best places to work in Malaysia,” Azmil said.
As part of a management reorganization, Datuk Kamal Khalid has also been appointed chief strategy, transformation and regulatory officer. He will work closely with Albern to lead strategic, efficiency and transformation initiatives, as well as stakeholder and industry engagement.
CelcomDigi shares closely one sen lower at RM3.23 on Tuesday, valuing the group at a market capitalisation of RM37.89 billion.
