More than 26,000 applications have been submitted for six-year-old children to enter Year One early in the 2027 academic session, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has confirmed.
The director-general of education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, said the response has been strong since online registration opened on 15 February. Of the total, 26,229 applications were received from children born in 2021 who are eligible for early admission at age six.
In addition to the early entry cohort, the ministry recorded more than 165,000 applications for the usual Year One intake of seven-year-old students (born in 2020).

Dr Mohd Azam encouraged parents who missed the online registration deadline which runs until 31 March to apply manually from 1 April to 15 November at their district education offices, state departments, or chosen schools. Appeals for placement adjustments will be coordinated from 1 to 30 September, covering reasons such as family relocation or ensuring siblings attend the same school.
The MOE also advised parents uncertain about their child’s readiness for early schooling to consult with school educators or district officers to make well-informed decisions.
The early Year One entry policy is part of broader flexibility in Malaysia’s education system allowing parents the choice, to enrol children earlier if they are ready.
