At a recent press conference held at The Ballroom @ MAHSA University Kuala Lumpur,  singer Hariharan and flutist Naveen Kumar spoke about their music, aspirations and plans for their upcoming concert in Kuala Lumpur.

Singer Hariharan, who solidified his presence in the Tamil film industry after the 1992 Bombay film, is no stranger to Malaysian shores. The ghazal maestro has performed numerous times in Kuala Lumpur with music composers AR Rahman and Ilayaraja.

“Malaysia is my favourite country to perform in. The people in Malaysia are fanatics of Tamil music. I also remember what a huge success Colonial Cousins was on this side of the world. Performing here is always something I look forward to”, said Hariharan.

When asked about how his music stands the test of time and instantly becomes evergreen favourites, he said, “If I sing a song and thousand people are listening to it, I hope, I pray and I try to create the effect that each person feels like I’m singing for only them. It is very conversational. Maybe that is why, the lifetime of my songs prolong. And each time you listen to it, you feel like somebody is singing it to you. It is a personal connection”.

Hariharan went out to express how he was looking forward to sharing the stage with flutist Naveen Kumar and singer Chinmayi. Flutist Naveen and Hariharan share a long history of creating musical magic on tracks for films like Bombay, Roja and Taalam. Flutist Naveen has also been created 4 new wind instruments in the length of his musical career. The crowd were given a glimpse of what they can expect at the upcoming concert with an impromptu performance of ‘Uyire Uyire’ with music maestro Naveen Kumar teasing the crowd with notes from his flute.
