The Ministry of Education (MOE) has opened opportunities for retired teachers to continue supporting schools in Malaysia, even after their formal retirement. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that retired educators can remain valuable contributors to the education system by sharing their expertise on a voluntary basis if invited by schools or other educational institutions.
According to current ministry guidelines, retired teachers are not automatically re-employed, but they can participate voluntarily or upon invitation to assist where their knowledge and skills are needed. This could involve mentoring teachers, providing specialized advice, or helping with additional programs aimed at improving student learning outcomes.

Fadhlina Sidek’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about teacher shortages and the need to support both students and staff in schools. She emphasized that retired teachers are not rehired to ensure job opportunities remain available for recent graduates.
The minister’s statement reflects the MOE’s broader efforts to ensure flexibility in utilizing experienced professionals within the education system. This approach is part of a larger strategy for recruitment, retention, and support for teachers in the long term.
