Penang State Government Allocates RM345,486 for Distribution of Desk and Chair Sets to Tamil Schools

Dato Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Chairman of the Penang State Special Committee for Tamil Schools, has launched the distribution of desks and chairs for Tamil schools across the state. This initiative is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve basic educational needs. 

On February 27, 2026, Dato Seri Sundarajoo Somu officiated the handover ceremony, marking the start of the first phase of distribution, which will take place in the Northeast and Southwest districts of the state.

He highlighted that this program is part of a commitment by the Penang State Government through the Special Committee for Tamil Schools to enhance infrastructure and create a more comfortable environment for students. 

The total budget for the furniture amounts to RM 345,486, which will cover 2,433 desks and chairs. The distribution will occur in stages, with 500 desks and chairs allocated to Tamil primary schools in the Northwest and Southwest districts during the first phase. This allocation was determined based on the number of students registered for the year 2026.

During the event, Dato Seri Sundarajoo Somu also expressed his appreciation to the members of the Special Committee for Tamil Schools for their dedication in implementing this program. The state’s continued focus on infrastructure improvements reflects its commitment to empowering Tamil schools and strengthening educational resources throughout the state.
