Simbu or STR, who is currently working on Mufti remake, was in the news for his other project with director Venkat Prabhu titled Maanadu. The film’s producer Suresh Kamatchi had announced that the project will be revived soon with another actor instead.
Simbu now has responded to the controversy with an announcement.
On Wednesday, Simbu announced Maghaamaanaadu, a Silambarasan TR film, to be produced by Chimbu Cine Arts. The shooting for the project is reportedly set to begin soon.
Maanadu, produced by Suresh, was tipped to be a political thriller starring Silambarasan and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Originally announced nearly two years ago, the project never went into production. Venkat Prabhu is currently busy shooting a web series for Hotstar and it is believed that he will commence work on Maanadu after completing his existing commitment.
In a statement, Suresh had said that he was tired of waiting for the project to take off, and that he has finally decided to shelve the idea of making it with Simbu. This news, which came as a disappointment for Simbu fans, was not entirely shocking for Tamil film audiences. The actor, in the past, had been issued a red card by the Producers’ Council, headed by actor Vishal, following complaints of him not turning up for shoots on time.
Simbu, meanwhile, is shooting for the Tamil remake of Kannada blockbuster Mufti. This project, to be directed by Narthan, also stars Gautham Karthik and will be bankrolled by Studio Green. The original starred Shivrajkumar, Muralist, Shanvi Srivastav and Chaya Singh. Simbu also has Maha with Hansika Motwani.
He was last seen playing a cameo in director Anita Udeep’s 90ml starring Oviya in the lead.
