Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) recently made a visit to national athlete G. Saravanan, the gold medalist of the 1998 Commonwealth Games, as he continues his battle with Motor Neuron Disease. Once celebrated for his historic achievement in sports, SSaravanan is now facing one of the toughest challenges of his life.

During the Visit Penang Hindu Endowments Board extended financial assistance to Saravanan and his family as a gesture of appreciation for his contributions to the nation. The visit was led by PHEB’s chairman, RSN Rayer, and Deputy Chairman Lingesh RA. Despite his worrying physical condition, Saravanan remains mentally strong, showing courage and determination that inspire everyone.

Saravanan, who once brought pride to the nation on the international stage, is now fully dependent on his loved ones for daily care due to the progression of his illness. His condition has not only been emotionally challenging for his family but also placed a financial burden. This makes the Penang Hindu Endowments Board’s initiative more meaningful.
More than just a visit, the gesture reflects the importance of remembering and honouring national heroes beyond their moments of glory. Saravanan’s legacy today is defined not only by his gold medal but by his unwavering spirit, resilience and the enduring strength of a true Malaysian hero.
