Tebenraj Segar, a student from Open University Malaysia (OUM), has made his university proud by representing it at the Global Student Leadership Summit (GSLS) 2026. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business at the OUM Melaka Learning Centre.
The summit took place from January 9 to 11, 2026, at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. It was organized by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the University of Tsukuba, and University of Malaya. This international event brought together students, youth leaders, researchers, and experts from around the world to exchange ideas, engage in panel discussions, and strengthen leadership skills under the theme “Nurturing Future Global Leaders.”

As the sole delegate representing Open University Malaysia (OUM), Tebenraj Segar participated in the summit online from the OUM Melaka Learning Centre’s library. His participation demonstrates that distance is no barrier to achieving one’s ambitions. During the summit, he delivered a keynote presentation and shared his research paper titled “Youth Empowerment and Civic Engagement,” which explores how young people can develop leadership skills through active involvement in social and civic activities.

Tebenraj’s achievement is particularly inspiring as he was the only Indian student representing Open University Malaysia, showing that Malaysian students can leave their mark on the global stage through dedication and digital innovation. His success highlights the university’s commitment to empowering students to lead, connect, and make a positive impact in the world.
