Harshini Sukumaran & Other Malaysian Indian Talents Work On Yuna’s Next Music Video

Do you have a pen ready? We need you take note on how Yuna is featuring elements of the Indian culture in her art without cultural appropriation.

Malaysian-made international pop singer, Yuna, is dropping some new music in a few days. The singer who is now based in Los Angeles, CA posted a teaser on Instagram about her upcoming music and her experience working with dancer and fashion designer, Harshini Sukumaran. Yuna made sure that she was respectful and mindful of featuring another culture in her work of art. Instead of making a mockery or using it as decorative, Yuna worked with the Temple of Fine Arts to learn dance moves and consulted in many local Indian talents and businesses to ensure that she pays homage to the people and the culture.

Yuna first posted a teaser of Harshini and other dancers with a title ‘Not The Love Of My Life’.

She then went on to share her experience working with Harshini and other members of the Temple of Fine Arts. She wrote, “With love, from Brickfields & Klang Malaysia, to the world. Let me be the first to introduce these amazing human beings who I had the privilege working with on this next visual I directed, but only made possible with the consultation, support, and love from these wonderful Malaysian Indian talents and local businesses.”

In an act of respect and appreciation, Yuna will be generously displaying elements of the Indian culture in her music video that will be released on 22 August 2019.
