Sekolah Kebangsaan Tamil Azad (SJKT Azad) in George Town, Penang, has successfully opened its first computer lab. This initiative was launched by Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo Somu, a Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, on April 10, 2026. In a social media statement, Dato’ Sundarajoo emphasized that this initiative aligns with his commitment to upgrading Tamil schools in accordance with modern standards.

The computer lab is designed to be a central hub where students can immerse themselves in the latest technologies and stay updated on current events. This space will not only facilitate hands-on learning experiences with various software and hardware but also foster critical thinking and digital literacy skills essential for navigating an increasingly tech-driven world. The initiative aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for future careers in technical fields, ensuring that they are well-prepared and competitive in the job market from a young age.

As the Chairman of the Special Committee for Tamil Schools in Penang, Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo expressed his pride in the committee’s allocation of RM2.42 million for 28 Tamil primary schools in the state to improve infrastructure. This funding is intended for essential school necessities and learning tools, such as the recently launched computer lab at SJKT Azad.
He emphasised that his primary goal is to ensure Tamil primary schools in Penang continue to progress, providing students with a conducive environment and all necessary resources for learning.
