Malaysia’s preparation for the upcoming Uber Cup have been affected after women’s doubles player Pearly Tan had to withdraw as she had a back injury, leaving the team with only 9 players.
National coaching director Rexy Mainaky has confirmed that there will be no replacement, as the team lacks depth in the women’s doubles category.
Pearly not being there is a big loss, especially as she forms one of Malaysia’s strongest duo with M.Thinaah. The tournament will be in Horsens, Denmark and starts from 24th April to 3rd May 2026.
With Pearly not in the competition, Thinaah is expected to pair up with other players. Rising player Low Zi Yu is most likely to partner with her, while others are Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting may also be partnered.
Zi Yu could also team up with Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan who might make her debut. The group is also missing mixed doubles Toh Ee Wei, who is recovering from a abdominal injury.
Malaysia will now have singles players, like K.Letshanaa and Wong Ling Ching, who has shown good improvements recently. Especially Ling Ching as he won against India’s P.V Sindhu at three games in Badminton Asia Championships.
Malaysia are in Group B with Japan, Turkiye and South Africa. Malaysia is aiming to finish the top two to reach quarter finals, something that has not been achieved since 2010.
