Datuk Ravinthran A/L N. Paramaguru is set to be elevated to the Federal Court of Malaysia, marking a significant development within the country’s legal system. Along with Datuk Ravinthran, Dato’ Azmi Bin Ariffin is also included on the list of appointees. Their promotions reflect their extensive experience and the judiciary’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its top leadership.

Both Datuk Ravinthran and Dato’ Azmi Ariffin, along with 12 other judges, will receive their letters of appointment from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara tomorrow. Additionally, six high court judges are slated to move up to the Court of Appeal. These judges are Justices Dean Wayne Daly, Aliza Sulaiman, Amarjeet Singh Serjit Singh, Radzi Harun, Latifah Tahar, and Ahmad Shahrir Salleh.

Strengthening the Highest Court

The Federal Court is the highest judicial authority in Malaysia, responsible for making final decisions on major legal and constitutional matters. The elevation of Datuk Ravinthran and Dato’ Azmi from the Court of Appeal signifies a continued effort to ensure the bench is staffed with experienced and capable judges. Their appointments are expected to enhance the court’s efficiency and uphold the integrity of legal proceedings at the highest level.

Early Career

Datuk Ravinthran was appointed a judicial commissioner on January 5, 2009, before being elevated to the High Court in 2013 and later to the Court of Appeal in 2019. Dato’ Azmi was appointed a judicial commissioner in 2014 and elevated to the High Court in 2017. He was promoted to the Court of Appeal in June 2023.

The Malaysian Judiciary has announced that the live broadcast of the Ceremony for the Presentation of Letters of Appointment, as well as the Swearing-in and Oath of Office and Allegiance for Federal Court Judges, Court of Appeal Judges, and High Court Judges, will take place tomorrow, April 21, 2026 (Tuesday) at 3:00 PM. The event will be streamed live on the official YouTube and Facebook channels of the Malaysian Judiciary.

The elevation of these judges not only marks a milestone in their careers but also underscores the importance of experience and merit in judicial appointments. As Malaysia continues to navigate complex legal challenges, a strong and capable Federal Court remains essential for delivering fair and decisive rulings.
