Malaysian hockey umpire Anbananthan Rawi has received a prestigious opportunity to officiate at the Hockey World Cup, a proud moment for both him and the nation. The tournament is scheduled to take place in August 2026, hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.
Anbanathan’s selection reflects his consistent performance and dedication as an umpire on the international stage. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation by participating in various tournaments, which have showcased his professionalism and strengthened his experience as a hockey umpire.
In 2025, Anbanathan received the Golden Whistle award after officiating in more than 100 international matches. This achievement places him among an exclusive group of globally recognized umpires and further enhances Malaysia’s reputation in international hockey.
Anbananthan has officiated not only at world cups but also at several other prestigious tournaments, including the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers, and the 2025 Hero Asia Cup.
