A 14-year-old student from Penang made a achievement after successfully memorising and reciting the first 300 digits of Pi, which earns him a place in Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).
K.Poonyamitra, a Form Two student from SMK St. George was recognised under category “Most Pi Recited from Memory by a Teenager”, following her feat on 9th February. Her success is believed to be the first of it’s kind in Malaysia for her age group.
Poonyamitra shared her success came from discipline and consistency. Over a course for two months. She committed herself to memorise at least 10 digits daily, which slowly built to a full 300.
“I set a target every day and made sure I achieved it. It was difficult at first, but once I got into the rhythm, it became easier”, she said.
The passion for numbers and mathematics played an important role in driving her to take on the challenge, which looked challenging at first but turned into a personal milestone.
Presented during the launch for Digitalisation of the Management System for temples under the Penang Hindu Endowments Board, she was presented with a certificate and computer in honour of her achievement. This event was officiated by Minister of Digital Malaysia YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo.

Poonyamitra’s journey in memory based challenge is not new. She won Memory Athlete category at the Kids Got Talent Malaysia Season 9 in 2025, where she also showed her ability to recall the digits of Pi. She was also on international stage, participating in a online audition for America’s Got Talent Season 21, and finishing as runner up in Asean World Records Rising Starz Icon 2025.
Her mother, S.Thilagam, expressed her pride in her daughter for her deduction and growth, highlighting her achievements reflect hard work and passion.
Poonyamitra hopes her success will inspire more students to challenge themselves, especially in areas like maths and memory skills. Which proves that with focus and persistence, goals are within the reach.
