Kuala Lumpur’s alterative music scene is set for electrifying night as Spice Frequency returns this month, making Madras Club + Shurutibox into a space filled with sound, culture and identity. Curated by Yung Mantra and hosted by Roshan Jamrock, the night promises a look of what Indian and South Asia music sounds like today.
A New Wave of Indian Music
Spice Frequency is not just a music event, it’s a curated journey. The music show blends jazz inspired exploration, experimental electronic beats, and hip hop sets, the showcase is a new generation of artists who pushes boundaries and redefining genres.

International Lady Pista from Toronto, Tamil Jazz Collective from Chennai, and Teej from Mumbai, along with Malaysian talents Dan Shiv, Shaun Vinda, Kashy Kash, Pralad (Tad Bit Spicy)and Shaks will be headlining the music show.
“This is a showcase of what Indian music sounds like now; global, genre-fluid, and unapologetically rooted,” said Yung Mantra.
The Vision Behind the Music Show
Curated by Yung Mantra, the creative alter-ego of Avinash Retnam, a vibe curator by night and a cultural strategist by day, whose vision is to champion the richness of South Asian artistry by creating sonic experiences and also exporting talent.
Through a broad vision, Yung Mantra brings sounds from Asia, Africa and Latin America together, to create space where culture and music come together. His mission is to build inclusive, brown-led music space which welcomes everyone together to celebrate identity and heritage.
Being years in the industry, Yung Mantra spoke about how Indian club culture in Malaysia has often been limited by many stereotypes. Events like Spice Frequency aims to change the stereotype, by creating a space for experimentation, which allows artist to explore music beyond mainstream.
A strong response to Spice Frequency shows the rising demand in KL, for more diverse and music experiences. With early bird tickets already sold out, the event shows a clear demand for something new, fresh, and culturally grounded.
