Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will expand the Jualan Rahmah MADANI initiative to all state constituencies nationwide with programmes set to take place every week starting this year.
This is a move part on the ongoing efforts to help Malaysians cope with rising cost of living by ensuring easier access to affordable essential goods. Speaking in a press conference on global supply crisis, Dato Anwar said the initiative has already shown encouraging results, with some items sold more than 30% lower than market rates, while others recorded reduction between 5 or 15%.
30,000 Programmes Planned for 2026
According to Dato Anwar, more than 25,000 Jualan Rahmah events were organized nationwide last year. For 2026, the government planned to increase the number to 30,000 programs.
This programs will be done by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, will also expand to select rural and village areas to ensure communities outside major cities can benefit as well.
Dato Anwar stressed that this initiative should not only benefit large company, but also provide opportunities for small traders and local business.
He also acknowledged the programmes alone will not solve all the economic challenges, Dato Anwar said it could help reduce financial pressures on many household. He said the government will continue to discuss additional initiative through Cabinet and meetings to address the cost-of-living situation.
