S.Sivasangari has kept the hopes alive with World Championship title after defeating fellow Malaysian Aira Azman in straight game which advances her to the World Championship in Giza.
The world No.5 took 24 minutes to win a 11-4, 11-9, 12-10 victory over No.22 Aira in all Malaysian second-round game yesterday (Sunday). The win is Sivasangari’s fifth victory over her.
Since last year, Sivasangaru has been training with former world champion Gregory Gauliter in Prague. In the next game, to secure the place in quarter finals, Sivasangari will be facing Tinne Gilis from Belgium.
Gilis won after defeating another Malaysian, Aifa Azman with 11-7, 11-6, 11-3. Sivasangari now holds 2-1 head-to-head advantage against Gilis, which also includes the recent victory in the Grasshopper Cup in Zurich Semi-Finals last month.
National coach Ajaz Azmat has praised both the players for their performance. She described that Sivasangari started good in the first game, then Aira came back stronger in the second and third. However, Sivasangari focused to fight back. It was a strong game by Sivasangari as described by Ajaz.
Sivasangari has been enjoying one of the best seasons of her career so far, having to win back-to-back titles at the Australian Open and Grasshopper Cup. With her continuing her strong game, Sivasangari remains one of Malaysia’s hope at the world championships.
