On April 30, 2026, a fire erupted in Taman Ehsan, Kepong, engulfing four single-storey terrace houses. The fire department received an emergency call at 2:26 AM, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. They managed to bring the blaze under control by 4:20 AM, preventing further damage to the surrounding area.
In the midst of this chaotic situation, Harvinder displayed remarkable bravery. Without a moment’s hesitation, he broke through the fence of his neighbour’s property to rescue an elderly couple trapped inside their home. Unfortunately, the couple had a son with disabilities, who was unable to escape the flames and tragically lost his life in the fire.

After rescuing the elderly couple, Harvinder brought them back to his own home, providing them with safety and comfort during such a traumatic time. Understanding their need for support, he ensured they felt secure while they processed the traumatic event.
On May 9, 2026, Chee Heng Kuan, better known as Uncle Kentang, took to his Facebook page to share the story, praising Harvinder for his selfless and courageous actions. In his post, Uncle Kentang emphasised the importance of community and highlighted how Harvinder’s quick thinking and bravery made a significant difference in the elderly couple’s lives. He later arranged for the couple to stay at a nearby hotel while they awaited the arrival of their other children to pick them up.

Uncle Kentang’s heartfelt tribute not only recognized Harvinder’s extraordinary act of heroism but also served as a reminder of the human spirit’s capacity for compassion in times of crisis. He described Harvinder as a true hero for his willingness to risk his own safety to help those in need.
