A new Malaysian Tamil Mini series titled 3SM-3 Solli Mattumtha is making waves for proving that storytelling that is meaningful does not require expensive filmmaking equipment. Created by Karthik Shaamalan in collaboration with UNITAR International University and SCIFILM, the series is a nine-episode series and is filmed entirely using an iPhone 15 Pro without and professional lighting equipment.

The production has only used RM50 wireless microphone and RM99 ND filter set while the rest of the project is based on strong writing, planning, teamwork and creativity. The entire production completed the series with a budget under RM200.
Inspiring New Generation of Creators
Speaking about this project, Karthik Shaamalan had explained that the series was created to encourage young creators not to delay with their dreams while waiting for expensive materials or perfect conditions to shoot.

“I am not saying you should not use great equipment or fancy gadgets. All I’m saying is, do not wait until you have such things to kickstart your dream,” he said.
The series also aims to introduce more Malaysian youths to digital storytelling through mini series and micro series formats, especially as YouTube continues to evolve into a strong platform for episodic content.
