Chennai Court Dismisses Plagiarism Charge Against Atlee In Vijay-starrer ‘Bigil’!

A Chennai city civil court has dismissed a petition filed by film director KP Selva accusing Atlee of plagiarising his story to make ‘Bigil’ starring actor Vijay. The court has also denied permission to KP Selva to file a fresh plea before the Madras High Court.

Bigil is actor Vijay’s 63rd movie and is about women’s football. Atlee, who has previously directed Vijay twice, is the director of this movie. Earlier this year, KP Selva, a member of the South Indian Film Writers’ Association, filed a plaint with the Chennai city civil court, alleging that Atlee’s Bigil is based on his story, which he had registered with the union. He sought an injunction against the filming and release of the movie.

When the case came up on Tuesday, the counsels for AGS Entertainment Private Limited (the producer of the movie) and director Atlee argued that the petitioner did not have any basis to file a plaint and sought the court to dismiss the plea.

“By the time the petitioner’s side was up to submit their arguments, his counsel backtracked and stated that they are withdrawing the plea and will move the Madras High Court in the matter. We had requested the court to not grant permission to the petitioner to move the High Court,”

Adding that the civil court agreed to their submissions and declined permission to Selva to file a fresh suit in the High Court, Sharada Vivek said that the case hence stands dismissed.

Bigil, expected to release for Diwali, stars Vijay in dual roles. While Nayanthara plays the leading lady, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Vivek, Daniel Balaji etc are also part of the cast. The movie’s music has been composed by AR Rahman and is produced by AGS Entertainment.
