Actor Silambarasan TR has shared new details about his upcoming film Arasan, saying he believes the film will make Tamil cinema proud in the same way Dhurandhar did for the Hindi film industry.
Speaking at a recent event, STR said Arasan, directed by Vetri Maaran, is not a small film and will see him appear in multiple looks as the story follows his character through different stages of life, from his younger years to old age.
He also described the film as highly realistic with filming taking place in several real locations.
“You all know about vetri sir, he is a director who seeks perfection”, STR said while speaking about the scale and making of the film.
The actor went on to compare the impact he expects Arasan to have with Dhurandhar, saying he hopes audiences will watch the film and feel proud of Tamil cinema.
Why STR Compared Arasan to Dhurandhar
Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar is a story of an Indian spy who enters a terrorist network in Pakistan. The film also explores gangsterism, terrorism, and politics around Lyari. Together with it’s second instalment, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the franchise reportedly earned more than 3000 crore worldwide from theatres.
STR’s comparison has also drawn attention because Vetri Maaran recently spoke about the influences of propaganda in cinema.
Without directly naming Dhurandhar, the filmmaker said that many things are becoming propaganda and that such narratives have the power to influence people’s memories. During the discussions, he also spoke about demonetisation in the context of cinematic propaganda.
The Dhurandhar films include references to demonetisation and present the move as part of a wider counter-terrorism strategy. With Silambarasan now teasing it’s scale, multiple character looks and realistic approach, Arasan is shaping up to be one of the actor’s notable upcoming projects with Vetri Maaran.
