The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the appointment of several ambassadors to various countries. Among them, Dato’ Amarjit Singh A/L Sarjit Singh has been appointed as Malaysia’s Ambassador to Finland, and Suresh Kumar A/L K. Rengasamy has been appointed as Malaysia’s Ambassador to Chile. Notably, both ambassadors were born in Penang.
Dato’ Amarjit Singh A/L Sarjit Singh
Previously, Dato’ Amarjit Singh served as the Malaysian envoy to Timor-Leste since 2023. He has also been posted to several countries, including Harare in Zimbabwe, Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan, and Hanoi in Vietnam. Dato’ Amarjit holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of London, UK. He began his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001.
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has held several key positions, including Undersecretary of the Africa Division, Undersecretary of the Americas Division, Principal Assistant Secretary of the Africa and Sub-Saharan Division, Assistant Secretary of the Environment and Development Division, and Assistant Secretary of the Multilateral Economic and Environment Division, according to a statement from the Ministry.
Suresh Kumar A/L K. Rengasamy
Before his appointment as Malaysia’s Ambassador to Chile, Suresh Kumar served as the Deputy Director of the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT). This center focuses on counter-terrorism training, capacity-building, research, digital counter-messaging, and public awareness programs. In collaboration with other governments and international organizations, SEARCCT promotes Malaysia’s perspective on effective strategies for combating terrorist threats.
Their appointments reflect the commitment and involvement of Malaysian Indians in government organizations. Dato’ Sundarajoo Somu, a member of the Penang State Executive Council, praised their appointments on his official social media platform.
