Three students from SJKT Castlefield Puchong made their school proud after giving a strong performance at the International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition.
The competition attracted participants from 29 countries, giving students the opportunity to test their speed, accuracy and mental calculation skills with other students around the world. The event is known for challenging students to solve mathematical problems with a limited time, and needs strong concentration with quick thinking.
One of the students was a Year 3 student, Samyuktaa Hariram, who participated in the Rookie Category. She won second place and also won fourth place internationally. This makes her one of the standout performances. Another student was a Year 4 student, Raishan Kumar. He won third place in the Rookie Category and won fifth place internationally.
Nivesh Sargunan, a Year 6 student won the Superfast Maths Success Prize. In the competition, they were given 100 questions and 5 minutes to answer as many questions as possible. Based on the number of correct answers, Nivesh was given a trophy for his age group category.
Their win also shows the reflection of the strong teamwork between students, teachers and parents in helping them to know their potential. Most importantly, this is an inspiration to other students to work hard, and believe in their talent and abilities, in academics and co-curricular activities.
The school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) congratulated their students for representing the school with pride at International level competition.
